The Academy of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Heydar Aliyev is a state higher educational institution for special purposes, implementing programs of higher and additional education, preparing highly qualified employees for state security agencies, conducting fundamental and applied scientific research. The Academy was established by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 37 dated December 01, 1998.
The creation of the State Security Academy named after Heydar Aliyev for the security agencies, one of the important state institutions of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, which will worthily serve the people and the state, protect their security, educate loyal and patriotic personnel, a new generation of professional and qualified personnel is directly related to the name of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. Our great leader, who has devoted 25 years of his rich and meaningful life to serving in the state security bodies, back on March 28, 1997, speaking at a
meeting dedicated to the creation of a professional holiday for security personnel, speaking about the role of personnel serving in these bodies, about the needs and factors, which characterize them, he noted the need to create a special higher educational institution for the training of highly qualified, professional national personnel.
The past period was rich in a number of historical events for the Academy that will not be erased from memory. Thus, the Academy was named in honor of the national leader Heydar Aliyev by a decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 20, 2005, taking into account the achievements in the field of training personnel for law enforcement agencies. On March 27, 2006, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev visited the Academy and opened a magnificent monument to the national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Glory Museum, with a unique content and elegant design, and personally presented the Academy with a “battle flag”, which is a symbol of courage.
The 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Academy was solemnly celebrated in December 2008, the 15th anniversary in December 2013, and the 20th anniversary in December 2018.
The Academy has established mutually beneficial cooperation relations based on business relations with universities and international organizations of the republic's special services, as well as partner countries.
