The next meeting of the heads of security and
special services bodies of the CIS countries was held
On
October 11, the 53rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Bodies of the
CIS Member States (SORB) was held in Baku. The Chief of the State Security
Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev, the Chief
of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan,
Colonel-General Orkhan Sultanov, and the heads of relevant bodies of the CIS
countries took part in the event.
First,
the participants of the event visited the grave of Heydar Aliyev, the founder
of modern Azerbaijan, the national leader of our people, in the Alley of Honor,
laid flowers in front of it, and commemorated the dear memory of the Great
Leader with deep respect.
Later,
the official opening of the event was held, and the discussion of the issues on
the agenda began. In his introductory speech, the Chief of the SSS,
Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev, expressed his pleasure in welcoming the guests to
Azerbaijan, and emphasized that holding the event in Baku is of special
importance. The Chief of the Service noted that in the short time since the
last meeting of the SORB in Minsk, Belarus, a number of radical changes have
taken place in the world in terms of security and geopolitics, new conflict
centers have emerged in some countries, international terrorism, transnational
organized crime, religious extremism, illegal drug trafficking cases have
increased and this situation greatly complicates the operational conditions in
the countries, believes that the event will create additional opportunities to
exchange experience and ideas in the indicated directions, to further improve
the methods of joint struggle of the CIS states against negative manifestations
and the coordinated work mechanism, to outline the contours of future
activities, bilateral and multilateral cooperation relations will rise to a new
stage. Ali Naghiyev stated that there are important issues to be resolved on
the agenda of the meeting and expressed his hope that important decisions will
be made in terms of the security of the states within the framework of the
event, and that the meeting will be productive.
General-Colonel
Ali Naghiyev, who gave information about the anti-terrorist measures
implemented against the illegal Armenian armed groups operating in the Karabakh
region of Azerbaijan, which are considered to be the main threats to the
security and stability of our republic, stated that those criminal groups did
not leave our territories, contrary to the tripartite Statement dated November
10, 2020, recently, their continuous mining of residential areas and
communications, keeping the positions of our army under continuous fire,
committing terrorist acts resulting in the deaths of civilians and police
officers made it necessary and urgent to carry out short-term anti-terrorist
measures, thereby the Republic of Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty.
Then
the meeting continued with the speeches and mutual discussions of other participants
on the security issues of the countries of commonwealth, including destructive
activities aimed at destabilizing the CIS space and joint efforts against new
challenges, and ended with the signing of final documents.
