The Chief of SSS met with representatives of the
International Committee of the Red Cross
On June 23, the Chief of the State
Security Service, the Chairman of the State Commission
on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Ali Naghiyev received the
head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) representative
office in Azerbaijan, Ms. Arian Bauer, on the end of the term of office and Ms.
Dragana Kojich in connection with her appointment as a new
head to the representative office.
During the meeting, the chairman of the
commission, Ali Naghiyev, touched on the humanitarian activities of the ICRC
and spoke in detail about the existing relations between our country and the
organization in question, the close cooperation of the State Commission with
the ICRC in the field of search, exhumation and identification of the remains
of Azerbaijani citizens lost during the First Karabakh and Patriotic Wars. He
shared his views on the humanitarian mission of ICRC has carried out in our
republic for nearly 30 years, and expressed his belief that more successful
results will be achieved thanks to this mission. At the same time, taking into
account the high sensitivity of the issue of missing persons and the fact that
the main task of quickly ending the expectations and concerns of their family
members is under the daily control of the President of the Republic of
Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, it is necessary to strengthen the mediation of the
ICRC in the provision of information about those persons by
Armenia to Azerbaijan. Mr. Ali Naghiyev noted the importance of increasing
intensity of the activity in the relevant direction.
Then the chairman of the State Commission, Ali
Naghiyev, thanked to Arian Bauer for hard work during her time of working in
our country and wished her good luck in her future endeavors, congratulated
Dragana Kojich on her appointment to this position.
Ms. Arian Bauer expressed gratitude for the
warm reception and informed about the humanitarian aid provided by the ICRC to
people who suffered from the consequences of Karabakh conflict during her
leadership of the representative office. She informed about important projects
and important events for determining the fate of missing persons in this
conflict.
In turn, Ms. Dragana Kojich expressed her
gratitude for the hospitality and warm welcome. Mutually beneficial relations
formed between Azerbaijan and the ICRC will develop continuously from now on
was noted by Ms. Kojic. She pointed out that she will work hard to solve the
tasks ahead.
At the meeting, there
was also a wide exchange of ideas and discussions on other important points was
conducted.
