The smuggling of large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan was prevented as a result of operational measures taken by the State Security Service.
Through the implemented measures, Ismayilov Israfil, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was detained on the territory of Gulmammadli village of Jalilabad region on suspicion of illegal acquisition, transportation and smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for subsequent sale by prior conspiracy with a group of people. During a search of the latter and the motorcycle he was driving, large quantities of narcotic substances - over 15 kilograms 346 grams of heroin and 962.1 grams of methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance, were found and seized.
A criminal case has been initiated in connection with this fact by the State Security Service under articles 206.3.2 (smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by prior conspiracy with a group of people), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by prior conspiracy with a group of people) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Ismayilov Israfil has been involved as an accused in the case and remanded in custody by the court’s decision.
At present, operational and investigative measures to identify other participants of these criminal actions are ongoing.
